The man in the LBS oiled my MTB clipless which has made them much easier to release. Just got new road clipless which are really stiff (yes have checked the tension) how do i oil them and what with??

SPD-SL's

Are you sure you don't just need more time getting used to them? If you do want to oil, id suggest the spring would be the best target.

Tollers make a good point.

I had major issues with my SL's (yellow floaters) when I first started. I loosened mine all the way on the tension and they still felt liked they were glued to my pedal. I started to kick in my heal to get out which seemed to get me out when I first started but it did take a while to loosen up. I have never oiled my SPD's, they have naturally loosened over time and I have tweaked the tension to compensate.

My suggestion would be go up and down a quiet road and give them a real workout to see if it helps before adding lube.

Hope you get it sorted
