Hi all,

I have a Giant Hybrid which is a good few years old now and I have just purchased a set of new front and rear v breaks including all cables etc.

How easy are these to change myself. Do I lube the new cables up before I install them and do I need to lube anything up on the new break arms

I'd say if it's all new kit you'll manage with lubing. For how to change, unbolt the old, bolt on the new and have a look at the Park Tools website here.

Haha dam text checker LOL.

Well I have done the front ones tonight so doing the rears in the morning. To be honest found it easy on first go and got the wheel central before starting as well.

Another question how easy are the gear cables to change without the need to re setup the gears

Good going on the brakes (so far!). Regarding the gears, you'll have to "re setup" them when you change the cable, as it's the tension in the cable that controls the whole changing gear thing. Two positives: (1) You shouldn't have to touch the mech limit screws, so that's one bit you don't have to worry about and (2) setting up gear cable tension is easy. Youtube videos abound, or try the Park Tools website.

Cheers for the advice people and the links.
Both now fitted and working. I see what you mean about it takes more time to tweek the dam things once installed than the install part. Not 100% but going to give them a tweek in the morning. Been for a test ride and they seem nice and sharp.

Decided not to attempt the gear cables
