Hi I have a Trek Alpha Series 6 that I'm looking to refurbish. Its a nice bike but it has some unsightly

scuffs & scratches. http://s1265.photobucket.com/albums/jj503/cavity35/

What would be the best way of clearing it up?. Partially stripping the frame and using a spray gun, or using a brush? Also what would be the best paint to use.

your help would be appreciated.

Regards

Cycleman.

That a strip and repaint job. Need a spray gun to do a professional looking job. Decals can be purchased on ebay after the painting. Chain, gears, BB etc could do with good cleaning/oil/grease before reassembly. Nice winter project

Yeah its a little bit more than a cut and polish job, you need to spend time with the wet n dry paper want flat all those chips and scratches smooth.

On the other hand if you just want to freshen it up a good few hours with a automotive cutting compound, and then a good polish will clean it up and remove light scratching.

'Pends what you want to achieve. Alternatives are as above, flat and a quick touch in, complete rub down using wet and dry in finer and finer grades [used wet] 'till it feels smooth [close your eyes and run your fingers over it, if you feel a lip or mark keep on rubbing down 'cos you will see it]. Strip off the paint with paint stripper then rub down, fill any tiny dents with fine filler then just keep spraying and rubbing. As said before the finish is all in the preparation.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

The main problems are around the fork and the chain & seatstays. which are all in black. The bike is a Trek Alpha 6 Series.

The rest of the bike is okay. I will strip down the main areas and use some decals when done. I have seen the 'Mikes Bikes' video tutorial and that is good.

I just wanted other opinions. Thanks a lot for taking the time with all your comments
