Do you mean the shifters for drop handlebars? If so, the shifters have a little paddle behind the brake lever.
Push this a short distance and it'll let out a bit of cable (i.e. shift into a smaller sprocket or chainring).
Push the same lever over further, and it will take in cable (i.e. shift into a larger sprocket or chainring).
Sounds confusing, but when I tried it out it was fairly intuitive in use.

So you use one lever to change gear ? - thats interesting, is not the distance close to changing either way ?

You click once to release the cable (ie move down the cassette or chainrings) and a double click (push a little farther) to move up. You can shift up 3 or 4 cogs on the cassette at the same time.
It's a great system and takes only a few minutes to get used to (after using Shimano for years).

it should be up one/two/three at a time depending on how many clicks you shift. I've not come across a 4th
