How did that get so high?

I had a very puzzling moment today.
I had just got home from doing my normal 15 miles and I was inputting my data into the computer. I was scrolling through my speedo to get the exact distance and realised that my max. speed had gone up! The last time I checked it was 41.5. Now it is 42.2.
I havent done it today so I must have done it on Tuesday when I went along the coast for 25 miles. There are steep bits on it, but I am sure I didnt get up to that speed going down those hills.

I just cannot work out how or where I got up to that speed. I struggled to reach 41.5, but 42.2?!

Some of these computer things are pretty unreliable judging from some recent topics on cc. Sounds like it threw in a new pb top speed just to make you feel better. What specific hardware are you using.

WTF are you on? That's only 0.7 mph faster! That is an insignificant difference. Just a change of wind direction could make a 5-10 mph difference to your top speed.

I am simply using a Halfords basic cycle computer. I am just about to go out and do the same route so I will see if I can beat it.

On a good hill where you don't need to break much 40mph+ is pretty easy to achieve. Remind me what bike you ride again.

A Milano Carva SE (weights a tonne compared to other race bikes). I managed to do 37 but the wind was constant and I was slightly wet.

I made a similar discovery today when I thought about changing some of the fields displayed on my Garmin GPS. I discovered that I have done 55 mph (88 kph) somewhere since I last checked! I remember doing 50 mph (80 kph) on the descent from Blackstone Edge to Littleborough a couple of months ago but I didn't think I'd gone faster than that since.

Actually, thinking about it ... I did reach some pretty high speeds on a couple of forum rides where I didn't check my GPS afterwards - It must have been on one of them.

If I'd realised, I would have made the effort to go a couple of mph faster and beat my previous record of 56 mph (90 kph). The trouble is, I'm a bit nervous on descents above 50 mph these days - I keep thinking what would happen if I fall off at that kind of speed!

When I was living and riding in Bangkok, I sometimes got wild readings, I once recorded 762 bpm on my Polar heart monitor and my Garmon Edge 705 once had this display

P1010133.jpg

Riding time 2 hours 49 mins

Distance 986.4 kms

Average 348 kph

One thing that might possibly be the cause was rogue signals from either tv/radio stations or mobile phone masts.
