...I'll be picking up my Galaxy frame from having been powdercoated. I'm not certain, because it also needs the headset pressing in, and I don't know that they'll have done it (it's via a charity recycling project) or have time to do it tomorrow - I'm in no rush really and they have more important stuff to do.

But I'm quite looking forward to getting it back and building it up again, it's been too many years since I rode it. Hopefully I'll get away without needing too many new bits (lovely as it would be, I don't have the money).

The one problem will be that I'll then always have two whole bikes in the flat, instead of one, and one in easily stashable bits - the wheels are under my kitchen worktop, the rack and 'guards leaning against a wall, and the sundry other bits in a box under the table...

Right, I'm off home to pig out on eat a sensible dinner of pasta and stuff....

Happy eating!
I think LIDL will have those pulley systems for suspending bikes from ceilings on offer come the 26th.

Enjoy, Arch. I remember getting my Galaxy frame painted at Longstaff's in Stoke about ten years ago. I had lots of fun putting it back together.

I guess in many ways that probably beats picking up a man on St. Valentine's day.;)

Where ever Arch would like to go, it would take her there when she was ready, and not complain if she was a bit later than expected. Galaxy will wait outside cake and/or tea stops, without complaining. If she gets lost, it won't get all huffy if Arch decides to ask someone for directions.

Admittedly Galaxy will not warm the bed , otherwise there would be a very sticky mess all over the sheets in the morning.:smile::ohmy::blush::biggrin:

and chocolate can be very difficult to wash off!

What colour, Arch?

Well, it was meant to be claret (I was offered a limited range, and that sounded nicest), but in fact it's more like a crimson - nicer than claret, I think, with the right accessories. I haven't got it, they are going to press the headset in and fit the bottom bracket, which I had at home and took with me today. And it's a matt finish, but Andy will lacquer it for me once it's built up if I want (to avoid damaging the lacquer in the workstand or get sticky fingerprints on it).

So now, I have a dilemma:

I could bung all the old bits back on, and just get riding, and then gradually replace them with the very nicest colour matching (or complimenting) stuff, gradually. (or knowing me, never get round to it replacing stuff)

or

I could get all the bits together, and build it up in one go - but it'll take time to get the bits.

Since money is so tight, I think I'll go with just reusing the old stuff - most of it will look ok, I think. I might have a shopping list for the York Rally though.

I'm going to line the lugs, either with gold enamel paint, or one of those gold pens, depending on how confident I feel.

I also need to do some maintenance on the FCR. The winter hack is spot on for commuting, but heavy for longer rides, so I want at least one of the 'summer' bikes ready for the spring...

It's a bit emotional. Tom found me that Galaxy at the Uni bike auction (£15!), and helped me rebuild and respray it. If we hadn't already started stripping that respray off when he died, I'd probably never have changed a thing on it. Now, it deserves some proper love and attention.

I may even give dropbars another go, when I can afford some interrupter levers. The right bar tape could set it off nicely.
