In my kids' school carpark... I'd unclipped my left foot and was about to unclip my right one to get off and push when I saw a set of reverse lights come on to my left. So I went into emergency mode and guess which foot I tried to put down...

Yes, there were plenty of people around and they all see me every day

Oh yes, that's a fairly classic one - slow moving, sudden distraction, lots of onlookers, eek!

certainly different to my off-road one the other day, was out riding with the kids when one decided to suddenly stop in front of me. I fell in a bush that time...

That is certainly one of the places where you are guaranteed to have a large audience !!

My worst fall was at the top of a steep hill where I had to stop for lights, tried to unclip, foot jammed, fell over. Hastilly got up as traffic started to move, had trouble clipping in and moving forward on hill, toppled a second time. Lay there laughing as passers by asked if I was ok. Maybe they thought I was a bit soft in the head.

I had my first proper fall last week........at a set of lights.......next to a busy school......infront of about 17 cars!! I picked my bike up while laughing like a little girl. No horns or anything,if it was the other way about(after asking if they were okay I would be hanging out the car sounding the horn shouting WWWWAAAAYYYYHHHAAYYYY WHO ARE YEEE!!!! Its amazing the panic that comes over you when you are creaming in!!!!

If you're in public, best to feign a heart attack to save embarrassment.

Well I moved my bike to the side of the road and pretended to mess with my cleats and pedals(something must be wrong with them) while all the drivers ran over my dignity which I left lying in the middle of the road!!!

If you're going to have a clipless moment it's compulsory to do it in front of as many people as possible.
Mine was in front of, or rather alongside, a bus full of school kids.

I watched a bloke last year have a clipless moment at a set of lights we'd both stopped at.

I'm guessing it was his first ride on them and he'd set them up way too stiff because even after he was laying on the ground he still couldn't get either foot out.

He ended up dragging himself and his bike to the side of the road with his hands.

I asked him if he was OK and he insisted he was fine (one of those moments when even if you'd broken both legs you'd never admit to it?!)

I put my bike sideways on to the traffic (we were at the front of the queue) and held it back after the lights changed to give him time to get fully off the road.

After asking him again if he needed any help I figured the best thing I could do was ride off and spare him the embarrassment.

I must admit though, once I was out of sight, I practically P122ed myself.

He who laughs last and all that ^_^

I hit the tarmac just six minutes into going clipless, after half an hour of practicing while leaning against a wall. There was a minor distraction and I just forgot that I was fixed in. Like a previous poster, I giggled as I tried to rid myself of the now horizontal bike.
