...well SOME of it at least.
And only cheap 'n cheesy at best!

Having never had any 'pukka' cycling clobber (apart from a brief -no pun intended-dalliance with padded shorts back in my gay youth)...I was itching to get out in my armful of 'Aldi' specials at the weekend.

Actually-I was itching a bit afterwards as well...but I put that down to the (30%) Merino jumper.

Despite the temperature only just dipping below double figures I enthusiastically donned my winter-weight tights, old-skool Merino jumper (70% viscose!), multi-layer cyclo jacket, triple-layer gloves, technical socks (to match my highly technical feet) and offwhite vest for a full on trip to the nearest pub and back).

Crikey-that stuff works!!
I bet super expensive stuf works even better?

Jacket was terrific.....really wind-proof an toasty. I bought a medium when actually I am the original Mr Thin and weedy and should have bought the last 'small' size they had...but after trying it on I felt a bit trussed-up.

The gloves were good too...great padding and good fit if a bit bulky.

Loved the jumper!

Tights were the biggest revelation though. PADDED parts. Skin tight fit....made me look like Bradley Wiggins with chickens legs. BUT I felt SO fast??? No flappy bits tucked into mi socks for a change.

Great stuff......I was par-boiled within minutes.....and thats WITHOUT the waterproof jacket and over-trousers.

Teach those Roadies to Laugh at me!

(Sadly-some still DID-but those were the ones overtaking, not the ones coming towards me who gave me THE 'NOD OF TOTAL AWE'-or so I fondly imagined.

I did look a bit of a prannet in the pub though.

BUT....I'm convinced. Thanks all for yr encouragement. All I need now is a bicycle.

Know just what you mean. It's hell when you get your flairs caught up in the chain.

Sounds like you needed a lot less than what you were wearing if you were par-boiled in minutes?
Try setting out cold and using your body heat to warm up?- unless you're somewhere freaking cold!

I find that I never need really thick clothing - as long as my extremeties are covered, a wind-proof jacket is all I need as not being that fit i start getting hot quite quickly!

I went to Aldi too. bought two pairs of glove, one for me, one for commuting husband. Turned out he needed same size as me... so I gave him mine. Just a warning, I will be moaning when the frosts come. Got some flash in the dark strips to sneak onto the childrens rucksacks when they go out at night too. the only cycling jerseys left were bright yellow...its always too early for me to have to look at fluorescent yellow arms.

I prefer to have something on my lower half that covers slightly more than extremities!

today - cold start, thin merino wool jumper (too thin to be legal to wear without it being covered up), waterproof top with pitzips fully open, winter cycle bib tights, socks, gloves... oh and shoes..

trick is to try to remember I need to pack bra and knickers as well as normal clothes for the other end... usually forget at least something...

anyhow - start cold... but not sure how you can do that when it is double figures outside - most deifnitely was not here...

I was wakened in the morning by the geese arriving for winter and they seem to have taken the temperature from the northern latitudes with them, time for the woolly hat, Lidl gloves, wind/waterproof jacket and windproof trousers over the normal long trousers.
Very comfortable, no overheating.
