I'm using the special plastic splined tool to attempt to remove the plastic nut from the LH hollowtech crank. As far as I can see it's supposed to be finger tight but it won't move even with a socket and ratchet handle attached. Any more force and either the tool or the nut or both will strip. Any tips for getting it out? If it strips what do I do then?

have you undone the 2 bolts on the crank arm?

If it strips just get another one off ebay for pennies.

just undo the bolts, then the pressure will be off the plastic nut and it may release. If not, fish it out with whatever you can and bin it. As Ian says, they are cheap as chips. I don't even use one and just leave the end uncovered.
