I don't know if this has been caused by cycling or not, but I suspect it has. I am nearly 50 years old, have ridden bikes on a casual basis since the age of 5, but only in the last 2 years have I started to do big(ish) mileages. Last year I covered about 4500 miles, some of it on big hills (no choice where I live). I do not use SPD's.
January 28th this year I came off my MTB; classic front braking on black ice - front wheel slides away and deposits me on tarmac. Quite a heavy landing with left hip and shoulder taking the brunt. All seemed fine for over a week, during which I did a couple of 40+ mile rides. Then I noticed my left hip was getting sore; not while cycling but soon afterwards - it would stiffen up and be quite painful, just at the top of the femur and towards the outside of the leg.
I cut down on the cycling to see if that helped, and it did. Unfortunately every time I think it has cleared up, I get back on the bike and it recurs. Now I am worried about cycling, and even more worried that I might have done some lasting damage. Going to make an appointment to see my GP and see what he says. Knowing the NHS though I will get referred for physio and have to wait months to get any treatment. Private not an option at the moment due to lack of job; that is why I have been passing the time cycling.
Reassurance wanted! I really don't want to face a summer of unemployment without being able to get out and about on my bike .
