My last hip strain (adductor) took a full 10 weeks to recover, i had intensive physio throughout but it could not be rushed, time was the healer.
The tricky thing with hips and the surrounding muscle groups is working out where the damage is and what exactly is causing it. I suffered with repeated adductor (deep groin) strains starting in Sep 2011. I put it down to my flat feet, over training and a multitude of other things.
I ended up getting referred to a hip specialist and had an operation on Friday last week to remove excess bone from the top of my femur and remove torn cartilage. Like most men I am a bit of a terror for self diagnosis using the internet but even when you think you have identified the problem the chances of you getting it right with a complex area like the hip are pretty slim.
I read on your other post that u get this on one bike but not the other. In my experience the onset of pain was 48 hours after the aggravating event, so I would be fine after a ride but in a lot of pain 2-3 days later. If you're getting pain while on the bike then yes you can say it is bike specific, but if the pain comes later then it could be any number of things causing the flair ups. I was certain cycling was the main aggravating cause until I gave up 4 weeks before my op - I was surprised to find I got another adductor strain through crouching down while gardening so I was wrong again!
Good luck with getting yours sorted but dont be shy about getting some professional advice.
