On the road to nowhere
Evening all, I'm Kevin and I'm from Newcastle (how 'blind-date' does that sound)

I'm 32 and in the new year decided it was time to get back to my 18 year old fit self so started running. A small hiatus after a minor op and I'm ready to get going again. My father in law is adamant that running will do more harm than good so offered me a lilac Peugeot Optimum 531 and I'm going to split the running and cycling 50/50. It needs tyres and tubes but its in fantastic nick for a 20+ yo bike.

If anyone else is from Newcastle advice on some good treks would be welcome

Kev

Hello welcome to the forum from powys

Hi Kev & welcome to the site. I was brought up in that neck of the woods, but don't live there now.

Some general sites which may give you some ideas:

If you're on the west side of the toon, heading out around Stamfordham or south of the Tyne around Chopwell has a few decent hills. When you've the legs even better to go to Allendale or Wark. North towards Morpeth is good as well. Main thing is to get out of town?

Hello Kev,
If you put 28mm treaded tyres on your bike you could go up the Derwent Walk up to Rowlands Gill, Consett and the Waskerley Way... steady gradients all the way to the top of the Pennines! Failiong that take the Tyne route either north or south of the river out to the coast and loop back from there... then north via National Cycle Route 10 past Ponteland, via Stamfordham and back home again is a good run. The 30, 67 and 104 mile Virgin Money Cyclone routes are good too!
West out to Newburn, Wylam, Prudhoe and Corbridge looping back via Stocksfield is a good day out.

:welcome: to the forum.

Thanks for the welcome and the info. I'm heading out to Evans and Edinburgh cycles for a look around today. Might as well given the weather.

Archie-tect - I'm from winlaton mill so know the derwent walk too well. I've got an old Raleigh Max Ogre for that run as it gets pretty muddy
