I want a trekking I think is the correct term bike to use to cycle with my young chdren, occasional commute and days out! I don't have a very big budget and came across the otler lindau which has some positive reviews and I quite like the look of!
The 2016 and 2017 models are both available and are the same price! So which is best? .....

I know the prices are slightly different from bikester but they are the same price with free delivery at Amazon!

Thanks for your help!

15kg is pretty heavy for a rigid fork hybrid

Have a look at Decathlon, unlike Amazon, you can actually try them out and have some recourse if you need post-purchase assistance

Otherwise, go for a lightly used, higher specced bike second hand

Hi vickster, thanks for the reply, I have had a look at decathlon and there are only a couple lighter in the hybrids without panier racks etc. and didn't find any in the city/comuter lighter than this in this price range! I understand that you do get to try them though! As far as second hand would you be able to suggest something? I would like the racks, mudguards etc I know I may have to add them as they all don't come with them!
Thanks again

I'd look for some something like a Trek 7.x model, adding rack and mudguard shouldn't add too much  or my fave the Whyte R7 series, you get disc brakes. Or a Specialized Sirrus (not personally a fan but for no objective reasons ultimately)

Thanks, just to ask though! Between the two I listed above, 2016 and 2017 models? Is there any difference in specification/equipment? Is one better than the other?

Paste the specs side by side, identify any differences and come back tomorrow and ask if they are notable

Unfortunately they are both black

Bedtime for me (others will of course be around later)

£200 really as it's for going out with the kids, taking camping with us and the occasional pleasure rides out! I already have a triban 500 white the early one with the square frame!! And that doesn't get much use as I can't use it on the canal and paths etc with the kids thinking of selling it to be honest!

Of the two I'd go for the second one. What is your budget?
The two that vickster suggested or the two ortler lindau ones?

£200 will buy you a lot of bike 2nd hand. I'd look for an old mountain bike (with rigid forks so you don't have to worry about suspension forks being in poor condition), you should be able to pick up a decent one for much less than £100 - add a rear rack and panniers and still have some pocket money left over. I have a rigid 90s MTB and it is an excellent jack-of-all-trades.

If you choose to go down this route and aren't confident about how to check over a used bike to see if it's in good condition (it's all basic stuff but there are quite a few things I usually check, some more important than others), I'm sure we can help you out here on the forum
