I half heard the same figure on the Today programme, or on the BBC news this morning. At the time it struck me as rather high, and I thought perhaps it was a KSI figure, or all deaths by HGVs, not just cyclists. But I can't find anything on t'interweb referencing the figure, and the BBC seem to have dropped it from their news stories. I could, of course, be rubbish at Google.
The ECF website that @deptfordmarmoset referenced is a bit vague on the subject.
