The recent gastromanteau* food craze started with the cronut, a <shudder> deep fried croissant, a couple of years ago. When that boomed, a lot of pattiseriers sat around with a pen and paper imagining hybrids. I just imagined one off the top of my head, the croissant/pizza, the croizza.
Google tells me it exists.
The bunny chow is unrelated. It's a hollowed out white loaf, filled with curry, and as filling as that sounds, despite it being a small loaf. I assume it dates back to a time when the south asians in SA couldn't get rice, so needed another way to eat their curry. I've always wondered if the name was a corruption of biriani.
* that's a portmanteau of "gastronomy" and "portmanteau". You're welcome.
Edit: croizza may already exist as a word, but apparently I coined "gastromanteau"
