Hi Guys

I was getting a lot of noise from my gears when changing so as a suggestion I tried to index them, big mistake or im hoping its not. I am unable to move the front derailleur wont move out of its current position (in middle) I have tried moving it when cycling in the turbo trainer but although it clicks it doesnt move in order to move the chain up or down.

Any help?

Did you fiddle with the limit screws on the front mech, if not its probably cable snag or jammed mech or shifters. Give everything a good clean and lube before you panic.

Yeah been trying with trial and error to stop the rattling, now the silly wee screw has been chewing up by my screw driver so cant really move it. Should have maybe left it for the pro's

Yep def f***ed it, back gears arent going all the way down (to hardest) and now the front derailleur wont switch but moves slightly

Try a different screwdriver, and see if you can remove that screw. If you have messed up the head, it will need replacing before the front mech can be aligned/tuned again.

Pick the smallest cog on the rear and change up one gear, use rear barrel adjuster until the chain jumps up and runs quietly.

Youtube "gear indexing"

You started out with noisey gears?

All you probably needed was a 1/2 turn of the rear deraileur barrel adjustment to move the chain in/or out slightly to stop it rattling on the rear cassette :-)

Yeah the lower gears were ok but when I started increasing pace and moving up gears it was like a train was coming, not sure with all my fiddling if this is the case.
