Hope this is the right forum for this question and apologies now if this is a daft question...... I hope it makes sense.

I picked up some DMR V8s for my spec crosstrail and fitted them with no problems. I have used the bike this week for my work commute and all seems well, the pedals are a big improvement on the ones that came fitted as standard.

A day off work today so decided to clean car, tidy shed and check the bike over. When doing this I noticed that a ring, don't think it's a washer, to the side of each pedal is loose and appears to be serving no purpose. It has no thread and I don't remember seeing the rings when I fitted the pedals. Hopefully from the pics you can see what I mean. Have I missed something when fitting the pedal? What are the rings for and how do I secure them, grease?

Any advice appreciated.

I'll have a look at mine tonight and see if they are the same. I've had them for a few years and can't say I've ever noticed this!

Thanks for that link, I will go an inspect now, a bit pixxed off if is this is a problem as I have only used them on 3 rides!

They are only a push fit cover, on my V8's one side the cover comes away from the pedal and floats around the other side never moves, I have noticed that it happens shortly after I have topped up the grease in the pedal every six months or so. But I have not notices any adverse effects by it floating around

Get some locktite and stick it back in place. If they arent expensive pedals dont worry about it until you for some reason (greasing the bearings?) need to get it back off.

It's a common problem with this model and barely qualifies as a problem since it has zero effect on the peformance of the pedal.

Push them back against the body of the pedal, if it persists stick them in place with some grease. If it still persists use a dab of loctite.
