Hi everyone I need some help. I am looking to by a second hand Trek Crossrip Elite Cyclocross online. The bike has aluminium frame with carbon forks! I have no experience with these ...especially carbon!! The owner sent me a close up of a small chip on the frame and fork.

Could someone with more experience than me help tell me whether this is something to be worried about? Will the forks fail on me? Or any I over reacting?

Hopefully you can see the image here:

Thanks for the help.

Loch side.
There's nothing wrong with that. It is abraded paint from cable rub and perfectly normal. It can be prevented by putting some sort of tough sticker on where the cable rubs.

Whilst there's no guarantee it doesn't have damage you can't see in the pictures, from the images you've posted, as Yellow Saddle says it appears that the mechanism of damage is chaffing rather than impact so I'd be happy to ride on that

A gentle chafe is not the same as impact damage at a point, which creates a stress riser, same as when you nick Sellotape with your teeth.
