I'm pretty much new to this whole cycling thing but am getting into it as 1) the cycle will be my main method of local transportation and 2) i quite like cycling now!

I'm torn between the following:

Specialized Allez triple sport 2010
and a
Trek 1.2 triple 2010

my little brother has the allez double and after riding that i must say i do like it however i know treks have their reputation and it is the same price

is one better than the other in anything in particular?

thanks

I think there is very little between the two for it to be anyones decision but yours. Have you ridden the Trek? How did it feel compared to your brother's Spesh?
Only you can decide which is the 'best' one, or which one you like better, but they are both good bikes at the price range.

Hi Zaski, welcome.

I started cycling 5 years ago with an allez. It has been an excellent bike. i would highly recommend it. But these bikes are very very similar. as greg said test ride both and go with the one you feel is best for you.

good luck.

I have a 2008 Trek 1.2 triple as a winter road/general purpose bike. It is excellent. Mine takes mudguards and a rack and is nor very far off my much more expensive road bike in terms of performance. The brakes on mine were a bit crap and I have replaced them and that seems to be a general complaint from reviews I saw, but the kit may well have changed over the past couple of years

ok so naturally my little brother (who knows nothing by the way) protected the spesh and said its a better buy as it has carbon fibre parts whereas the trek does not

i know the trek looks better (this is actually a deciding factor for me!) and is an overall better brand but i was also told the 1.2 has bontrager parts which the little runt tells me is not a good brand

can anyone shed some light on this and possible confirm my suspicions of him talking rubbish?

in what way? Says who?
Bontrager is Trek's inhouse brand
Trek also has Carbon parts (forks)

They are both nice bikes, not much to choose between them. It's all down to you when you test ride them. Only that way will you know which will be right for you.

The 1.2 has a carbon fork. All I can say is go with the one you find more comfortable to ride and enjoy.
