Help to clean bike chain?

I've been out in the rain, wind and going through alot of dirt on my road bike,

I'm in the UK, can someone please give me some basic tips on

1. What to do when I get back after a cycle, in terms of cleaning, products etc.
2. How best to clean my dirty cassette and chain if i'm a bad boy and let it get that way. Again what products are readily available for cleaning and lubing again.
