Can anyone help to re-assure me that I’ve not been the old fool in, “there’s no fool like an old fool”.

I need to know if I was foolish in using the discover cycling website.

Over a week ago they took the equivalent of two of my weeks wages from my Visa card for my purchase and since then, nothing.

They promise 48 hour despatch and 48 hour delivery.

I had to phone them and the guy mumbled (who sounded as though he was on a building site) about “not in stock”, but the web site said it was in stock when I ordered it. “No problem it will be with you next week”, was his reply.

Now Her-Indoors reckons that it is all a scam and that I’ve lost my money. She thinks that I should have noticed the Nottingham address, that maybe they are from Sherwood Forest, and she also noticed that they use Lincoln green on their web site. She said “never mind about Specsavers, I should have gone to Halfords”.

So, is there anyone that can re-assure me that discover cycling do actually exist, has anyone ever bought a cycle from them and is there anyone that has had a reasonable service from them, because at the moment they seem to be a bit behind Basil Fawlty for customer service.

:hello: and welcome to the site. I can't say I've bought from discover cycling, but I have heard of them.

It might just be a bit of a misunderstanding and I hope it is. It's quite normal I'm afraid to have a very lengthy wait when ordering a new bike, sometimes it's 5 or 6 weeks. I've known two bikes shops to have very sloppy stock control as well .

And you probably wouldn't have got a bike within 48 hours at halfords. A mate bought his last year, it was not in stock when they said it was and assembled some days after they initially promised.

If you've used a card (especially a credit card) to buy it then you should be covered against this type of thing. Ring your card people.

A colleague bought some wardrobes from MFI just before they went bust, everything arrived except for a few of the door handles they'd chosen, for her this was a tragedy, but the card company reimbursed them for the whole amount of the purchase not just the handles.

Thank you for the welcome, honoured Basket Weaver. It's good to know that you have heard of Discover Cycling. It seems that bicycle retailers may all be a bit sloppy in looking after their customers then. At least the weather may improve before the bike arrives.
And thank you Junior Quassleberry, but don't tell me that MFI have gone bust, I'm waiting for them to deliver my new kitchen!

Thank's for the welcome subaqua, buddy, and thank's for the advice. Hopefully my purchase will turn up. What really annoys me is the lack of communication from Discover Cycling. An e-mail or a phone call is all that's needed to keep customers happy. But if there is no news soon then I will take your advice and contact Visa. Cheers.

I ordered a laptop recently but had to wait for 5 weeks for delivery when it was supposed to be 14 days so I contacted my cc provider and had my money back inside a week.
I recommend this as others have said.

Thank’s very much for the good wishes and advice.

After canceling my order, I received a telephone call from Discover Cycling to apologise for their service. I am pleased to report that I have received my refund from them.

Just be careful of going straight to Halfords. if you're looking to buy from a shop look at your local bke shop(s) (LBS) as well, you may well get better advice, choice and pricing there. Halfords can be a good store, but only if their local staff are good.

Sorry to drag up this thread after so long, but I was wondering if anybody else has bought from Discover Cycling since?

On the27th (April), after much delberation, I finally bought myself a new bike from there. As there has been all the hold ups with the Royal Wedding and bank holiday yesterday I was expecting for it to be somewhat delayed and wasn't fussed... until I noticed that their name on my bank statement went through as 'Holcros cycles'. Wondering if they were owned by a larger company I googled Holcros only to find numerous complaints about shoddy service - I'm assuming they now call themselves Discover Cycling.

Their website states that bikes are dispatched between 3-5 days of payment clearing, and you will be sent an email with tracking details etc. then. My payment cleared on the day of purchase, but 6 days later I haven't heard anything since. I sent them a message this morning via. their website, but haven't heard anything back yet (despite their facebook page having been updated today)

I normally wouldn't be too worried as, technically, it's only been 3 working days but after reading this, and the complaints about Holcros Cycles online, I'm a little bit paranoid that I'm going to find myself out of pocket by a lot of money with no bike.

Just a quick update for anybody who may find this in the future, Discover Cycling never replied to my message but dispatched by bike a week after I ordered it. It arrived yesterday, but was missing the pedals. So I called up and the guy said that instead of of 2010 model which I bought I had the new 2011 model which didn't come with pedals. I know I have the 2010 model (2011 model would have been much more £!), so he agreed to send me a pair of pedals.

Off I went to set it up and found that I was missing the quick release skewer for my front wheel and the allen keys sent were too big for the handlebar fittings. So after a quick toolbox raid and another phone call, and they're also going to forward the front skewer to me.

I can't say I'm very impressed with their service so far.

Nope that's utter rubbish!

Even the service from Halfords is better than that, which isn't saying much!

How odd, my boyfriend kept looking at my bike and decided to take my laptop out to the outbuilding. Low and behold he took me through and shown me a picture of the Airlite 2011 and 2010, I was supposed to have got a 2010 but it seems I have ended up wth a 2011...

I guess missing some pedals and a skewer isn't bad for a £120 saving...
