:hello: hi all, im planning on riding to see you best friend in paris, but does anyone know what the closest ferry port is to paris that leaves from portsmouth??? also is the terrain flat?? and what road do i take?, hopefully a direct route :biggrin: , im more worried about hills as i need to get there asap so hopefully north france is flat, has anyone done this route befor? and how long did it take?:thumbsup:

You can either sail into Le Havre or Caen. Ferry times into Caen early morning aren't great as they are exactly that - very early morning (3am type early when we looked last year).

The advantage of Caen is get to use l'avenue Vert which is a 30km strip of tarmacced railway line exclusively for pedestrians and cyclists! When I did Paris last year we sailed into Le Havre and the biggest challenge was getting out of the bloody port and across the bridge. It's not easy to find your way out. If you don't like heights, take the train. Both bridges are HIGH!!
