Can anyone out there help me with an indication as to the quality (or otherwise) of the "Exage" groupset ?
I know where I am with the modern groups, but an old guy in LBS told me this was very good and he was sad it had been discontinued.

Don't even know if it was Road or MTB.

Exage was a series of MTB groupsets and generally sat just below LX in the hierarchy. There were some very good VFM components, I'm running one of the low-profile chainsets (circa 1993) on my audax bike.

old shimano exage stuff is rubbish compared to todays standards - it was fairly average in performance back in the day too!

The Shimano Exage 'EX' range was 'road specific' and one of the lower groups and normally fitted to 'sports bikes' in the mid range price bracket, although will work well enough if well adjusted/maintained.

If I recall there was an Exage LX range as well, which was flat bar/triple and used on ATB hybrid bikes.
