Hi there, i've just got myself a Ribble Stealth V1 frame and need some help if anyone would be so kind....
The bike is naked and I'm starting from scratch having not built a bike in years.
Some questions:-
1. the whole bottom bracket thing is confusing. I'm an engineer so can figure out I need a bottom bracket but what size would I use. I assume there are two types; 1. Where the crank is complete with a shaft and you install the BB which has internal bearing and use a special tool to tighten 2. The BB has a shaft running through it with a square taper either end on to which you press a suitable crank and tighten it on. Can you please advise on what would be best , what thread i need to get etc.
2. The stealth has a bracket for the front deraillier, but i'm only familiar with a clamp on tube type. Again what should I go for here?
All the rest seems fine.
Thanks, Andy

Hi Andy, the front mech type you need is referred to as a braze on type.
As for the BB,if its threaded its most likely an English thread and the type of BB bearing depends on what type of chainset you intend to fit

Thanks for the advice folks... Well, what appears to be going on here is that the BB looks to have been sleeved to take a Hollowtech II BB. I had to take it into a shop and ask for advice.

The whole drivetrain thing about bike seems pretty complicated to me, but I can understand its been driven by changes in the way people use bikes i.e. Tripple to Double crank and the need to make things lighter.

So I've ordered a BB and now the fun begins as I'll try to buy a second hand crank for it.

For the fun of it I'm going to try to build this Ribble Stealth into a decent machine for as little as possible and just see how low I can get it as i'm in no rush i.e. By one lever, one brake etc, all matching of course.

Will post some pictures etc as the build progresses. If anyones got any miscellaneous Shimano 105 black bits to sell let me know.
