I have started to get what i can only describe as a fine crunching noise mainly from the BB area more so when on the push stroke on the left side and a bit on the right, everything that can be tightened has been done lubed the new chain yesterday, and cant work out exactly where or what it is when im riding because the wind is that bad so its difficult to pinpoint, there's no play in the BB and the pedals are shimano 520's and relatively new and no play in them, so im at a loss and its doing my head in any ideas?

Ease chain off chainset, then turn the crank arms and hear/feel for crunch, if there it is the BB. If not hold crank still and turn pedals to hear/feel for same.

I chased a similar noise; swapped pedals, fitted a new chain, checked chain alignment and then finally got a shop to reface and refit the BB. The problem was solved and more importantly, the bike is so much better for it.

Try swapping back to your old pedals, see if this cures it. I had a clicking noise on my bike, coming from the BB area, turned out to be my newish pedals needed more grease and re-torquing.

If the pedals are quite new i'd be suspicious of those.

When riding though, double check it's not saddle related by standing up and listening to see if the noise persists.
Does it happen in all gears? Only select gears?

Noises can be one of the most frustrating issues with a bike. Fingers crossed for a speedy fix.

I had a similar annoying noise recently, felt to me like it was coming through the LH pedal. Changed pedal, cleat etc no change, eventually tracked it down to the two crankarm bolts attaching to spindle which had loosened, tightened them up, job done. Good luck with finding your noise can be immensely frustrating.

I think i found it, im hoping it was the strap that goes round the seat post, the velcro was rubbing as the back of my thigh was hitting it on the down stroke, making that crunching noise as the post isn't smooth as its like a rough powder coat sort of stuff, i put tape round it yesterday and a spot of oil in to where the seat rails go in to the seat, i never heard a peep when out today, fingers crossed.

Good luck

I was too slow to post, but I had a creak on pedal stroke too, which turned out to be creaky saddle clamp that would only happen as my weight moved about with pedal stroke, as it was intermittent it took quite a while to diagnose that one

Thanks, and to all who offered solutions, its the sort of thing that drives you insane, and then ecstasy when you found them.
