Hi all,

i have a pair of specialized mtb shoes (i think they are Taho or v. similar) and i put them through the wash. I had taken the cleats off before hand. When i took them out i went to reattach the cleats the screw threads in the shoes had dissappeared. Do you think they will be stuck somewhere and i can free them? Or can i buy some new bits to stick in there? or is it another pair of shoes? I got a good year and half out of them so not too fussed if i have to get more.

thanks

feel beneath the sole, there should be a metal 'plate' in which the threads are cut.
This plate may have just bee dislodged, if you peel the sole up you may be able to find it and put it back in the right position. If it's lost or damaged, you can sometimes get a new plate when you buy some more cleats.

The threaded plate floats, so will either have come out altogether, or shifted out of sight of the slots. If you lift the footbed out of the shoe you should be able to locate it. Make absolutely sure they aren't still in the washing machine, otherwise you'll have a very expensive bill on your hands.

By the way, the instructions on the shoes tell you not to machine wash them under any circumstances.........
