Ive just got a Edge 705, im following all the instructions but can not get the plugin communicator to work. I have downloaded it normally and manually, it says its loaded, then goes to a plugin test page and says that it is not detected? Doing my head in!! Has it got something to do with active X, cant find how to sort it. Im a computer forest gump so basic works with me.

Help!! And thanks!

A not-necessarily-very-helpful post - but (1) I feel your pain (2) I use the 705 on a Mac but have in the past had it working on PC (I'm assuming you're running on PC with talk of ActiveX).

I would recommend making sure you are plugging your garmin straight into a USB port on your computer, not via a hub (I had issues with this).

Oh, and make sure you have switched the unit off before plugging it in! If it's on, it won't connect.

Erm. When you plug it in, does it show up if you open Explorer (that's Windows Explorer - press the windows key and E at the same time as a shortcut)? You should see it 'mounted' as a drive letter (two, if you have sd maps). If so, it is indeed likely to be a problem with Internet Explorer, if not it's a problem between the computer and the unit.

Can't offer much else without being present with a hammer/book of swear words, sorry!

Thought of one reason and it caused me problems with my Edge 305, faulty USB cable. For some unknown reason my cable became defunct but it caused me a lot of grief as to why I could not connect, till by accident, I used the wrong cable and it connected, then I twigged my problem of a faulty cable
