Helmet mounting options for 7dayshop cam

I have today received my DVR D011 helmet cam from 7dayshop and I need advice on mounting it my helmet. I'd much prefer it to be up there than on the handlebars due to the lower vibration levels and the fact that it turns with your head.

I cannot see how to fix it to my helmet other than taping it to it. I have seen it mentioned that using half the handlebar mount and some cable ties can do it but I have had no success. At the moment I have it held on there with two strips of electrical tape but I'd like a more flexible solution if possible. Cable ties don't seem to have the reach and can't hold the camera tight enough and the mount just slips about.

BTW the helmet I have is Giro Indicator.

Helmet mounting has gone completely wrong, the electrical tape is no use at holding the mounting bracket firmly to the helmet, it just peels away too easily is the camera is nudged so that plan has gone out of the window.

I have even tried to affix the bracket to my handlebars as was designed but that hasn't gone to plan either! The central part of my bars either side of the stem clamp is oversized and too big for the bracket whereas the rest of the bars are of standard size. Not much use either as the cross levers get in the way (not really liking them and want them removed). The only other place I can fit the bracket without getting too much in the way of my hands is down on the drops right at the end of the bars. I have now got it so the bracket is upside-down and pointing outwards, but I can swivel the upper part to face forwards and the camera itself can be rotated so that the image if the right way up.

Only a proper test on my commute will tell whether or not it can stay there for a while, I just hope it doesn't interfere too much!

If the cable ties are too short you can slot the end of one into another to give you the extra reach needed then when tight cut off the ends.

Hey,

So I think it was me you read about attaching it with half the handlebar mount and zip ties. I've also got a Giro Indicator (although I'm finding it much too warm, any suggestions for a cooler one?

Hopefully I've managed to successfully attach a picture of how I've done it. I originally just had it zip tied into that vent (using poundland zipties, you get a selection of lengths and I've used the big blue ones.

They don't claim the camera is waterproof but I've used it on a few rainy commutes and it's been fine...

Any questions, let me know!

Thanks for the tips everyone, epescially you Whitebait.

The helmet isn't ideal and I do find it a tad warm and the strap is unpadded and leaves an unsightly red mark on my forehead, maybe I am not putting it on right but who knows. I would like a better fitting and better ventilated one if possible.

The picture looks good and it seems to be possible to put the cam there provided I can get the cable ties right. For the moment it is sitting on the drops, it was useless this morning as it ended up pointing at the sky the whole time so I will adjust it before setting off home tonight.

It is forecast for rain later so we shall see whether it has much to offer in the way of waterproofness.

Also the red flashing light isn't showing up when it is plugged into the usb port on the computer, it should be flashing as an indication that it is charging. If it is fully charged the green light should show but no sign of that either, it can only be seen when recording normally. I hope that the battery isn't knackered as someone in the other thread said that their's stopped charging after a week!

Hey,

Well I get the blue light on solid and the red slowly flashing when it's charging and I get yellow solid and green slowly flashing when it's recording. I don't get a green light when it's finished charging... And I don't think I always get the red when it's charging... Sometimes when I plug it into my blackberry charger mains plug I get the yellow light solid and the blue flashing really quickly and sort of randomly. No red light then...

Well, good luck and I hope it does keep it's charge and keeps recording!

Another thing... I bought a class 6 8gb SDHC card as I was finding the 4gb card I bought it with would occasionally corrupt one of the video. Seems better so far.

Also, I'm thinking of junking the bar mount bit and zip tying it directly over the vent, that's how I did it originally but it ended up pointing too low. Reckon if I put another zip tie underneath the camera I can get the angle right and not having sticking up above the helmet... Hmm, will try it when I have a spare 15 minutes and let you know how it goes!

I have now managed to zip tie the mount to the helmet as seen in your pic, albeit with only two ties but it seems steady enough. I hope the angle is right and doesn't end up pointing at the floor for half the time like it did when I taped the thing to the front-right vent.

I had a go at altering the angle before setting off this evening as I said I would be doing and I managed to get some footage out of the camera. It seemed to be fully charged as it lasted the whole 40 minutes and saved about 2.5 gig of video files, the 8gb sdhc class 4 card I have seems to be doing an alright job, no corrupt files noticed. The video quality is good for the price, a little cmos wobble and rubbish low light performance but I cannot complain. The rattly witch is a bit annoying though but hopefully mounting on the helmet will get rid of that and make my speech more audible, I can barely hear anything on the video when I was reading out a number plate.

The green light seems to be on all the time when plugged in on my home PC even though it hasn't been in since the end of my commute home when surely it would be about half drained. I guess the lights are temperamental annd so I think I will leave it charging for anything around an hour before setting off again.

*also nothing much happened on camera on the way home, just a risky pass on a narrow bridge and not sure whether to upload it or not.
