After seeing how poor the typical driving standard is in London (see here for example), I've decided to invest in a helmet/handlebar camera. However, as some of you will be aware, I've recently started my university studies and thus I am not really able to afford the top-of-the-range cameras that I would like to be using.

So my question is this: what camera would you recommend as the best value-for-money?

A Muvi clone is under a tenner with full sports pack but I think they can be a bit hit and miss on build quality but film/sound quality for the price is excellent.

Whatever you can afford that gives the best picture. There is absolutely no point in buying a cheap item that gives a blurred and/or blocky picture showing no readable numberplates if it's ever needed.

You're may have a problem this time of year as the darkness draws in, as most camera's are pretty useless in low light conditions.

Agree about techmoan. Also youtube is great for other video examples - Dogcam Sports often upload example videos. Carlton Reid and Gaz (aka CycleGaz on YT) have both done cam reviews iirc. Some blogs out there have done reviews, too (London Cyclist iirc)

If it is to be used in low light then beware! You need a camera that can cope, as BSRU said.

I've actually ordered one now, I'm expecting it to arrive tomorrow. I'm not expecting to be doing too much cycling in dark conditions. Although I ride almost everywhere, the vast majority of cycling that I do is for social reasons as opposed to commuting. I might even post a picture when it arrives, because @jazloc will recognise it from their post!
