I've been lurking around reading the forum for quite a while now, and thought it was about time I registered and introduced myself.
I am (yet another) returning to cycling after a long absence. The last time a rode a bike before last summer was as a student. I had a Crown Comet 10 speed which I literally rode into the ground and left in a shed in Sheffield (long story, but I do wonder what happened to it!)

Sixteen years ago I broke a leg in several places and treated myself to a second hand MTB, an Emmelle Classic 300, fully intending to ride it to get my legs working again, and after three outings on flat trails lost interest and let it gather dust in the garage. I dug it out this summer as my kids were badgering me to ride with them, and I spent a great day giving it a thorough service, new tyres, cables and brake blocks. Brought back from the dead I took it with us to France and spent one of the best holidays riding with the kids and a mate of mine. Initially terrified of hills (bizarre, 'cos I live at 1400 feet!) I now commute 7 miles each way to work, have lost half a stone and am in the process of cuting out the roll-ups.

Trouble is I've been bitten badly by the bug! The kids have saved up every penny they could and asked for combined birthday/Christmas presents, determined to drag Dad onto MTB trails etc, and ended up with a Cube Attention and a Merida Matts 60 between them. Santa is browsing various catalogues to see what he's going to spend my Christmas bonus on. My museum piece will remain as a commuter as it's quick on the ride to work (42 mph on the first hill from the house!). Anyway enough about me: Hi, look forward to joining in the friendly chat I've seen on the forum. (Helmet threads notwithstanding!)

Welcome Cubist !!!!!

greetings!

I just joined the forum a couple days ago. I have two bikes...a gary fisher supercaliber and a '75 schwinn varsity that I just took apart and built into my first fixed single speed. check out the pics and let me know what you think.

I know I am a bit the "odd one out" on this forum. I live a couple hours north of Chicago. My favorite place to grab a pint is @ "the house of guiness" (check it out here...http://www.houseofguinness.com/). anyway, glad to meet you.

Welcome to you both. French holidays with the kids got me back on the bike too about 12 years ago.

thebrowncup, why are you the odd one out? There are some other strange people on here that don't drink real ale:biggrin:

Guinness is a good choice though
