Hi there,

Last week I got knocked off my bike whilst commuting to work. Totally the driver's fault, he's admitted it, no problem.

I spoke to his insurance company today, they have agreed to cover the cost of a replacement bike, accessories and clothing, and I should get a cheque for that on Monday.

But as I'm still not 100% myself physically they have advised me to get legal representation. So my question is this, who do you guys reccomend for that sort of legal work, and what the hell should I be claiming for, I haven't the faintest idea? There is nothing broken, but did get soft tissue damage to my back and neck, was hospitalised, and x-rayed and scanned to within an inch of my life. Without sounding too mercenary, what sort of payment do cyclists get after being hit by a car?

Thanks in advance

Cost of travelling to work, cost of travelling to hospital... everything that you wouldn't have ordinarily had to have spent.

I worked in the Personal Injury 'industry' for years and the best firm i came across were Gorman Hamilton who have offices in Newcastle, Leeds and Ipswich http://www.gormanhamilton.co.uk/

As for how much you would likely recieve, that depends upon the injuries suffered and how long before you are recovered to your pre-accident health as well as posible future problems etc etc

RJW - they specialise in helping cyclist. More general personal injury firms may carry a lot of the usual wrong presumptions about cyclists. I'd trust RJW to get the helmet/no helmet issue for example which many firms would not.
