ive always loved cycling and used to ride everywhere and anywhere, did a few charity rides to blackpool, liverpool etc and loved it.
need to get back into it but someone let my trusty steed rust and then threw it on tip!!

Admin bump. Copied it here from the Welcome forum, but as it was dated a few days ago it dropped straight off the front page.

If anyone can help, please feel free to chip in ... thanks. ;)

 abbytuttut and ;) to CC .

Admin has moved your post here and is pleading for someoneencouraging us to help, so I'll start .

Delighted to hear that you have recovered from illness  and are getting back into cycling .

There are any number of questions to ask about a new bike but a couple of things to nail down, when drawing up your Wish List, are:

- budget - and don't forget to allow some extra (£100 ?) for extras like clothing, pump, lights, shoes, pedals ....
- type of riding - not just road/off-road eg if off, cyclepath/canal towpath/forest trails/MB trails ?
- flat bars or drop bars ?
- commuting as well as charity/sportive rides ?
- what is the ratio betwen your Need for Speed and your Need for Comfort ?
- personal considerations - core strength, flexibility, stamina ...

If you can get some answers to these questions, you will be in a better place to be given more specific advice.

HTH

Hallo and welcome.

Before we can give any good advice, a few questions:
What sort of a budget do you have in mind?
You can have light weight or you can have cheap, but you cannot have both.
When you say "off road", do you mean cycle paths and tow paths, or on mountain tracks?
If it is the former, then some sort of hybrid bike would be suitable, if the latter then maybe a cycle-cross bike might be more appropriate or maybe even a mountain bike.
