I know there have been a few threads on helicopter tape and i am considering it , has anyone got any piccies of what it looks like applied please?
Looks like my dream of downgrading the boardman in a while is not going to happen so i want to try and keep it looking as mint as possible.

Where do you need the tape, is it just for the cable rub areas, if so I have some spare patches if you want em

Cheers , i was thinking more like strips on all the main tubes to reduce the chance of chips /scratches etc as the boardman seems to be a scratch magnet.
Even considering a respray in a few years to a colour that does not show the muck so much as white might be nice but it dont half look dirty as soon as you ride it .

You can just ......only just see it

why do you worry how it looks? you are applying it so that you can later remove it when you sell the bike s why does it matter?

who said i will be selling the bike ?, best case scenario it gets downgraded to the commuter in a few years if i am lucky but i just had to tell swmbo she cant have a new kitchen as we have £34 to last till pay day on top on now having to pay preschool fees of £12 a week so it does not seem likely atm. I am exploring options to keep it looking good for as long as i can.

Any idea how to get the glue off a frame from old patches?
Brake and clutch cleaner is great for removing sticky residue as well  FWIW I use a WURTH product as it really does work well. It's fantastic for cleaning dirty drivetrains as well.

I don't know the finish on your frame CK, but FYI you can also get 'helicopter' tape in a matt finish as well like THIS. I use it on rubbing areas on my CAAD10

Just use tape where you get cable rubs. As for protecting the paint, if it's gloss use a car wax then regularly polish with Mr Sheen. The stuff works. Two of my bikes have a fair amount of white on. The Mr Sheen forms a silicone barrier that stops the muck sticking. It's also great at removing oil.

I wouldn't and never have covered large areas of the frame with the tape. Just rubbing areas.

IPA is a good bet. The adhesive responds very well to heat, so hairdrier and alcohol to remove it. Same for applying it. Heat frame and tape with the hairdrier and smooth it on while warm.
