Hey hey!

Been a while, just got my beloved bike back after having to leave it behind when I relocated.

Having given it a once over I've spotted a chip on it, on the frame under the chain, not sure what that part is called. Sure I have seen similar posts to this before, but can't find them for the life of me! So sorry if it is somewhere!

What, in your opinion is the best thing to do to avoid further damage, go the helicopter tape route? The chain stay protector route? Or a touch of both?

Any advice on tape / protectors is gratefully welcomed.

Thanks.

Blade tape or a chain stay protector runs to pretty much the same thing. With brands like BBB you get pre cut patches to prevent cable rub on the headstock as well

I got mine from here of ebay a year or so back...

I have just removed it as I was going to sell my bike, and as a buyer I would want to see it removed. The tape is quite thick, and look to have protected the frame well. I did the underside of the downtube and there isn't a mark on it.

When applying it have a bowl of water with a few drops of washing up liquid in, and once the backing is removed skim the sticky side of the tape over the water - it will prevent it sticking an wrinkling and can be removed and replaced. Once in position squeegee the water out and leave for an hour.

I was worried that removing the tape could damage the surface of the bike. No issues found. Its hard to describe, but its more of a "Gummy-sticky" than "sticky-sticky"... if you know what I mean!
