I ride a Boardman SLR 9.4 elite and during the summer needed a new headset fitting. It had signs of play coming in, but not too bad. Took it to LBS and had new bearings fitted. Itäs been lovely ever since. A couple of months and maybe 1500 miles later and today I noticed the play is back!

Any ideas on fixing without more new bearings or is it just going to be ongoing?
Thanks.

I'd just nip it up enough to take up any play if you can and keep an eye on it. Headsets can work loose from time to time, hopefully there's nothing wrong with it.

They can work loose if the stem is not tightened sufficiently or through a poorly designed clamping area - you hit a few holes in the road and over time the stem works itself up the steerer very slightly. I try to avoid over-tightening the bolts and get this problem once or twice a year - it takes a minute to correct.

If you have tightened up and there is no play there bearings are fine.
