So the lower sealed bearings on the synapse headset have got a bit crunchy, I need to replace them.
It's an integrated headset on a2014 cannondale synapse...
But I can't find the bearings anywhere, (actually it's really that I don't know what I'm looking for)

Went on the headset finder on cane creek and it gave me this-

Shamefully, I'm none the wiser. :cursing:

Could someone help me out - are these a standard bearing size? I've tried googling those numbers to no avail.

Are all integrated headsets standard? Anyone replaced one on a synapse?

Looks like a piece of p1ss to do, I'm just lost in the process of choosing the right ones

The cane creek headset finder is horrible.

Basically you need to know the steerer tube diameter, and the angle of the bearings. Steerer will be 1 1/8" unless tapered. Bearing angle may be 45°/45° (campy std) or 36°/45°. Do you have photos?

Provided the info from Cane Creek is correct you just need a Cane Creek 40 Series (that's a whole range) headset and within that range you need an IS 42 headset. So google Cane Creek IS 42 and that is what you need.

In the UK you will need to buy the whole lot.

The difference between the upper and lower in your graphic is that the lower bearing sits on a slightly enlarged crown race of 30mm (so it is IS 42 - 30)and the lower bearing should be slightly different. In The States you can buy a separate lower bearing for this but in the UK I presume they just use two similar bearings.

The IS 42 is a 45 x 45 (that is the inner bevel angle and outer angle) and the outside diameter is 42mm. I don't know the depth. If you measure the depth then you can use any headset bearing with these dimensions. Then search headset bearings on ebay to get something like this (these are 7.5mm depth so may not fit yours).
