OK, I gave up looking so I'll have to ask. Does anyone know the model of headset on a 2012 Genesis CdF? Clues are: FSA, 1 1/8" threadless, external cups, caged bearings, silver in colour.

And is there anywhere I can buy a new crown race and some bearings? At some point I'll probably replace the whole kit and caboodle but I'd like to just keep it going for a bit longer with minimal cost and effort.

Ta muchly :okay:

You will need to measure inside diameter, outside diameter and depth of cups and then get the appropriate one. It can be a minefield. Unlikely that you'll be able to buy a crown race on its own. Bearings yes - but again check all 3 measurements before you buy.Your lbs might have one lurking about in a spares box.

That had a VP (FSA's Oriental maker) headset no longer made.

You just need any 1 1/8th traditional (aka external) headset with the same ID (internal dimension).

You may find that most new ones are angular contact bearings so you will need a new crown race - most will be 28mm but some will be 30mm. You need to measure the bottom bit of your steerer to find which one you need (probably the 28mm). Otherwise the angular contact bearings will fit ok.

or

The easiest way is to clean the existing crown race and buy some new bearings for the cages (about £3 max) - just take an existing bearing to the LBS.

Cheers, that's what I needed to know and explains why I couldn't find it. The crown race is pitted but I've cleaned it up as best I can so I think I can eke it out for a bit longer. I think I'll wait till it starts feeling crunchy again and then replace the whole lot. :okay:

Just need to get hold of a headset taker outer and a headset putter inner.
