Headset change...

Not saying I would, but would I be able to swap a threaded headsets with a (similar sized) a-headsets? I have a Dawes hybrid with the former w/ adjustable stem.
I'm thinking ahead for either upgrades or possibly a self build...

I suspect you would need new forks and a new stem as the steerer tube from the forks has to go all the way through the headset for the stem to clamp on.

You'd also need a new frame as the bearings for the A-Headset sit in recesses in the head tube, though I believe there may be some sort of adaptor you can get.

Not quite the case.......headsets are available for traditional head tubes, semi integrated setups, and fully integrated setups. You've just got to identify which one you have (by the shape of the head tube) and get the headset to match it.
