Headset bearing help!

Are there any experts on FSA headsets on the forum? I have an Argon 18 Gallium (2010) with knackered
headset bearings.
I cant for the life of me find out the size/model to replace them. My Lbs is being a bit slow and I need to get it done.

The top bearing has an outer diameter of 47mm and an inner of 34 mm.

Take a look at this - you will also need the width.
 
You have an integrated headset. First bit done.

Next bit is to measure the existing bearings

a) Outside diameter (which you have done) (Unusual big bearing)

b) Inside diameter (which you have done) ( 1 1/4 steerer)

c) bearings have varying depths - measure the depth.

d) bearings have a slanted bit in the middle and at the edge - these are cut at a specific angle which is usually prinnted on the edge of the old bearing eg 45x45 or 45x36. Check both old bearings.

Then it's a matter of googling integrated headsets and finding one that corresponds to yours. The only complication is that sometimes the retailers talk about OD of the headtube so you may have to delve a bit deeper to get to the bearing OD on any particular make.

Sadly all the info has worn off the side of the bearing. I'm all googled out trying to find spec sheets for my bike!

Back to the bike shop with the rusty article it is!

Two posts in about a rusty headset bearing and the thread turns argumentative and insulting! Impressive even for cyclechat the 'fun and friendly' forum.

No arguments from me fellow - stating the fact you asked a question people did their best to help you and you don't even say thank you. Obviously, you don't have to but it would be nice. In my case, it was very late and I was just about to go to sleep when I saw your post, I thought I'll go searching for that website and get you started. Knowing what I know now, I should have said to myself "good luck to him" and switch the laptop off and gone to sleep. :smile:

Finally sorted. As ever echelon cycles in Pershore has done me a good one by taking a bearing out of a frame they had in stock.

As you correctly pointed out it has all the relevant info printed on the side (which i have noted down for future reference!) It is a:

FSA 970 MR082 1 1/4" ACB headset bearing


I thanked the folk in the bike shop....and i thank you as well!!
 
No problem - it takes about 15 mins to answer these type of questions so it's nice to get a thanks.

Some others don't even bother replying.
