oddly I have been working on a similar idea, basically you fit a helmet cam to the bike pointing backwards and a 3" monitor(which I'm having a devil of job getting) to front handle bars. so a constant view of your rear view.

I do wonder how it compromises the helmet safety with that thing in front of your face.

ah but were? - the one on the frame is pretty useles, if its off the handlbar it gets knocked off, - and its so low tech. unless it involves buckets of electronics it can't be any good , hell next someone will say - er look over your shoulder !.

GoPro hero with iPhone or Android App will do that for you. Then you have the added advantage of GPS on your screen as well
