Head set

I have a defy 2 about 3 years old pretty well looked after. It did not have much use over the winter but was kept dry and clean.
Been getting it out a bit more now and I am not sure if it is my imagination but I think occasionally the head set as in handle bars go a little bit stiff then seem too free up. Think I noticed it the other night when I got off too push it in the shed
Are you meant too apply any sort of lube too that section some how ?

You could try putting in new ball bearings and giving at the headset a thorough clean and regrease. But if they are going tight then loose it probably means the races are worn and a new headset is required.

It's a bearing therefore it does need periodic lubrication / adjustment. Try striping the thing down cleaning and regreasing [sometimes the old grease can set almost like glue].

Hi,

I have a Defy 2.5 - and that has cartridge bearings.Maybe yours does too? I haven't had a problem but in routine maintennace I noticed that the steerer tube was full of sand/grit thrown up off the front wheel and washed in either by me washing the bike or on wet roads. Took the forks out, stripped off the bearings, cleaned everything up and refitted with new grease. Couldn't really get into the bearings as these are sealed - but a least they are now running surrounded by clean grease and not sand! Whatever, they run free and smoothly.
