Hello everyone!!
Nice forum - more friendly than some of the others so thats nice to see
I am in the market for a mountain bike due to a car failing an M.O.T and seeing as we only do 20 mile a week in it it does not make sense to get a new one.
My max ideal budget is £600 - Would like to factor in say £100 for helmet/lights/lock etc.
Am flexible so say between £400 - £600 for a bike.
I am 6 foot 3 inches - approx 14 stone.
Types of use for this bike would be:
I have been doing some reasearch for about 2 weeks so an not totally clueless just my head is starting to hurt with all the options
Hardtails seem the way to go have come accross these two so far as main contenders.
GT Avalanche 2008 1.0 Disc = Good Reviews/Cheaper/Specs Look Fine. Bike is cheaper at £400 meaning I can spend more money on other bike goodies.
Ridgeback Quest 29er = Local Bike Shop Recomendation (29" wheels - supposedly better for us tall riders on concrete. Seems to be not so good on dirt though?) Top end of my budget at £600
I would really appreciate some feedback on the above beacuse I am struggling to make head nor tail of it all
Best wishes,
Murray

Types of use for this bike would be:
- Around town (4m round trip)
- Local path (35m round trip) - Path is tarmac in good condition.
- Some local nature trails - nothing to hilly here.
- Some cross country - nothing major but down dirt roads - lanes.
- May take a holiday to do some MTB Trails - Fort William etc?
- I do freelance photography - Go from home to location for sunsets.
