Do any of you wear a buff or similar underneath your helmet. I have a good ventilated helmet but suffer from headache after a ride due to the rush of air through it. I have always been prone to headaches when exposed to strong wind whilst mountaineering and so I always knew when to cover up. Trouble is I want to wear my helmet at all times when biking and wondered if there was a specific product for this problem.

Yes, wear my CycleChat buff under my cycleHelmet always, whatever the weather.

Yes there are rain covers. However, they were all designed on the days of round helmets. I have not yet found one that fits on top of a modern helmet. So I use my jacket's hood in severe weather, but most of the time I allow myself to get a bit wet. You don't get nearly as wet with a helmet on. I understand there are also waterproof covers for under your helmet, but that would seem to be very sticky and uncomfortable.

For winter days I have a thermal skull cap. It keeps my head warm, but the wicking is also reasonably breathable so not too schweaty. I think it is made by Polar.

Thermal skull caps work well. I use a lightweight skull cap in summer for sweat absorbtion.

PS don't get a rain cover for your helmet - you'll look a right 'goon' - believe you me, I have a colleague who wears one, it's shocking.....imagin a rather large 'shower cap' that your 80 year old granny might wear....

That's not a nice thing to say  but I'm more bothered about keeping my hair dry than maintaining my sartorial elegance. I've got a black gore cover which fits fairly snuggly (and as such doesn't look too bad) and has room to put the helmet peak on underneath. I find it's better at keeping rain off my glasses than just the peak by itself so it's also better for seeing where I'm going.

If you've any doubt about the cover fitting, take your helmet into a large bike shop and try one on.

Question to OP, are you sure that the helmet isn't too tight?

Many of the adjustable helmets can be tightened too much, and result in a pressure headache. Cold air can cause headaches, I agree, but that problem is usually isolated to colder weather.

Lusso make a skull cap that is designed for winter and is really quite cheap http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=24729

The other more "fashionable" option could be a cycling cap under your helmet, if the helmet is big enough, fitting some of these things under a close fitting helmet will again cause pressure headaches. You can choose retro, campag, shimano, or even some of the teams are available. Advantages are that the peak can keep some rain off your face. http://www.bicyclinghub.com/blcacap.html

Finally you could always tape up your helmet vents??
