Hey guys I'm new to cycling and have just bought a Dawes Galaxy AL 2014. I have just realised that it is supposed to come with a Truvativ 170mm Crank according to the website. After inspection upon arrival it has a Shimano FC-M311 Altus Crankset instead. Does this matter at all? Have they been cheeky and swapped parts for cheaper ones, or am I worrying too much? Is it normal for a bike to come with different parts than specified on the website?

Cheers in advance!

The Shimano Cranks are usually better in my opinion. Specs can change.

You don't say which particular Truvativ chainset your bike comes with but it is quite normal for manufacturers to change the spec of their bikes subject to parts availability. I doubt Dawes would pull a fast one and most probably they have swapped like for like. I wouldn't worry.

What usually happens is manufacturers say the bike comes with Shimano/Campag XXX groupset, but you get a cheapo chainset thrown in, rather than the one that tallies with the groupset. Happens all the time as the manufacturers try to keep the price in a certain bracket, so it's a bonus to get a Shimano or Campag chainset or inded, other parts.
