With less than a fortnight to train, I've been roped into a 400+ mile bike ride, from Solihull to Paris. We leave on the 9th May, and finish on the 12th May, riding 400 miles in four days. I'm filling in for someone who had to drop out at the last moment, and so have done no long distance training, and just have to hope my fitness level will push me through!

The ride is being done for the Charity "Harry's Helpers". This is a charity that was created by eleven year old Harry Moseley. Whilst battling an inoperable brain tumour, Harry was inspired to make a difference to all people with brain cancer when a friend of his who also had a brain tumour became very ill. Within the space of just over two years Harry had organised and attended nearly 100 events to raise money for and awareness of Brain Cancer. He touched the hearts of the nation with his efforts and helped change the lives of everyone he met.

Sadly Harry’s health took a sudden turn for the worse following brain surgery in August 2011. On 8th October 2011, and after 14 weeks in a coma, Harry passed away peacefully at home in his Mom’s arms.

You can see Harry's full story at http://www.hhho.org.uk/harrys-story.aspx?p=2

So, now the begging bit. I know I'm not going to be able to raise much, as I've joined at the last minute, but I'm going to do what I can. If you are good enough to sponsor me, please do so at https://www.justgiving.com/harrys-helpers/ and in your comment mention CycleChat.net. Anything anyone can give is brilliant.

Thanks for reading!

Well, done the single training ride I had the opportunity to do today. 81 miles, by myself, rolling average 16.5 mph, without stopping. I'm quite happy at that, as a) it's the longest ride I've ever done, and b) The groups last ride out together they did 80 miles at 14.5, so at least I'm at their pace.

My bum however was starting to complain at the four and a half hour mark... oh well, it's only pain... right?

Thanks to Fuzzball from this forum for your very kind donation!

Day one complete. The shortest day, 87 miles into a strong headwind! No real problems though, feeling good for the 117 mile day tomorrow - if any of you are commuting through London at the right time as see us, say hi!

Whole ride was completed. Unfortunately day two was cut short by forty miles, as we got held up in London. I was one of three who voted to carry on into the night regardless but was outvoted. Legs felt good, and 20 odd cyclists going round the Arc de Triumph was a sight!
