Yesterday I joined two friends in Derbyshire, the plan was to meet up in Hope, ride from Hope up Mam Tore, down Winnats Pass and back to Hope for some lunch a nice 10 mile ride.

The ride went really well, although my nobbly off road tyres really held me back with the on road riding, I still loved it, the hardest part was getting up Mam Tor, I nicknamed it cardiac hill. However the ride down Winnats Pass was a real rush I clocked 30.4mph, it would have really hurt if I came off the bike but thankfully I didn't.

During lunch at the café in Hope we thought about doing the same route again, but one of the lads suggested riding from the café in Hope to Kings Tree at Ladybower.

So we said ok to the Kings Tree ride, again a very nice ride, 22 miles there and back, the hills felt twice as steep with our already tired legs and the ride round ladybower was really nice, you get some fantastic views round there.

The whole day we did 37 miles due to me taking a wrong turn and adding a few miles on the way back.

All in all it was a fantastic day, the weather was good a bit of rain on the last couple of miles but nothing to complain about, by the time I got back to the car I have to admit I was broken, my neck and shoulders hurt, I had no strength left at all in my legs to pedal, I had well and truly dug as deep as I could, it was by far the hardest ride I have ever done, but loved every minute of it.

Glad I went yesterday because the weather today is rubbish.

nice ride, nothing wrong with the weather today apart from a little wind (though it is a tad dangerous at times).

32 miles on a MTB on the road and knobly tyres must have been hard work. I understand fully why you were knacked at the end of it, but , as you say, what matters is that you enjoyed it.

Well done fella. I know both those routes very well indeed, and to do both in a day ain't too shabby (especially on knoblys)

Thanks for the messages peeps, yes you can really feel the drag from those knoblys, my mates were doing the same amount of pedalling and getting a lot further a lot quicker they were using proper road tyres, which to be honest is my next investment.

Already got my next ride planned, hopefully for next weekend weather dependant of course, from my house to Sherwood forest and back just over 40 miles. Should be fun.

I ran my MTB on Schwalbe City Jets and could run 20 miles no bother, highly recommend them over the knobblies and the puncture resistance does a good job too only one puncture in 1000 miles on mainly urban riding with lots of broken glass around

Well done, I remember the difference when I changed from knobbly to semi road tyres on my mtb. I'm well impressed with your miles.^_^

Im just checking out a set of these tyres on ebay, I think I will go for hybrids as my mate is always changing his wheels over for when he rides on the canals, then changes back again when he rides on tarmac, that sounds like a real hassel to me, I just want to get my bike out and go.

The only other thing I noticed yesterday is that my seet is too low down, I waste a lot of energy as my legs come too far up, so tommorow the seet is getting lifted.

All a learning curve John. Changing a set of wheels is easy enough, but then you have to have two sets of wheels.

Cheers, looking forward to my road tyres arriving hopefully tomorrow, I cant wait to get them fitted and give them a trial run, then at the weekend a proper run.

From my house to Sherwood forest is definitely on, cant wait.
