It's the year of the Snake.

Thanks @PeteXXX for the reminder about this. I sent a message to a Chinese friend (as I normally do when I remember) and received in response a photo of their amazing New Year lunch spread.

(Please don't post Chinese text in this thread as there are rules about CC being an English Language site.
I created this thread as a rules-compliant way we could carry on from the thread started by @PeteXXX which was locked because of this)

Not just China, many Asian countries recognise this festival.

Nonetheless, xin nian hao (I assume transliterations are allowed?).

Indeed, I think the general name is "lunar new year" which isn't specific to any one country.

And no, transliterations aren't English. You could have written "you are a big fat poo" for all I know.

Mods need to remember that, as per Shaun’s own guidelines (see below), there are acceptable exceptions to the English only rule, and moderating isn’t restricted to locking every thread that may contain an infringement.

Anyway, Happy Chinese New Year and apologies for distracting from the theme.

“Language – We are an English language community and require content to be posted in English so that it can be easily understood and moderated. Short, common use non-English phrases are allowed, as are requests to have text translated; and if you wish to post a quote in another language, please post the English translation alongside it so that the meaning is clear. Moderators will remove non-English text where there is no accompanying translation or any doubt as to its meaning. “

Could you please repeat that in an English accent?
