what stem do you currently have?

Another option is to drop the current stem on the steerer tube my moving spacers about and using a 'standard' 6 degree stem.

There's a calculator here: http://yojimg.net/bike/web_tools/stem.php

E.g 100mm stem on 73 degree steerer angle. 3 degree on 30mm spacers puts bars in same place as 6 degrees on 25 mm of spacers below.

Ok that was only a quick example but downward works too ......

100mm stem on 73 degree steerer angle. -3 degree on 25mm spacers puts bars in same place as -6 degrees on 30mm of spacers below.

Either way you may be able to change soacets about to get to where you want to be.

yes but my steerer tube has a max of 24mm so it would be nice to have 6 degrees with 30mm spacers but that's not an option hence my post and my search for a 3 deg stem

The figures I quoted are only for example (hence the e.g. In my first post). You can plug in your own figures and see what your options are. As you are looking for 3 or 4 degree stem I guess you're not fussed about a millimetre or two difference so that gives you a bit of leeway.

The figures will work with all 5mm differences within the limits of your steerer.
