I have recently acquired a Claud Butler 'Classic' bike which I am well pleased with apart from the handle bars. As you can see from the photos the bars are not straight but curved in a away that I am not familiar with. I find it difficult to get a bar position in which the grips are both far enough forward and low enough down for me. At present they point forwards at the ends which is quite uncomfortable.

I would prefer a more conventional straight form of bar, or I can adjust what I have got to get a better position? I am looking to do mostly on road cycling.

Any guidance much appreciated.

:welcome: It's quite easy to change to flat bars you may need to fit new grips though depends if they'll come off, as for those bars  they look uncomfortable at that angle cos they should rise up and tilt back towards you, just loosen off the 2 centre allen bolts and get the bars to feel right then slacken off the brakes and position them to your liking.
EDIT- nice bike BTW and Schwalbe Marathons fitted.

Welcome. The bars look like they should adjusted so they are pointed back. Would be more comfortable in that position. I can imagine they would feel very odd in the current position.

Yep the bars are on the worng way up. All the bits on the bars should loosen and allow you to turn it over the other way.

Otherwise you can get other flat bars easily enough to replace them. You want ones with 25.4mm clamp diamter in the middle rather than the 31.8mm ones that are becomming more popular.

I may be well wrong here [usually am] but they look as though they should be swapped over end for end [ie right left] too. If not as above swapping bars is easy enough.
