Going by your description i take it you mean these lights

I and many others suggest that you have at least two front and two rear lights. Presuming that you already have no lights, you will need two of these.

Which takes your total to £63.98 from halfords.
You can buy the same set at wiggle for less (beaten to it, cheaper as well)

The lights will be perfectly fine for commuting on lit roads. I wouldn't expect it to light up anywhere i am going.

I purchased a set of Smart Lunar 25 lights 3 months ago and use them for town commuting, I can't beleive how good they are compared to my old lights. I paid just over £22 on a well know auction site.

If you have been given vouchers and you are tied to spending them in halfords have a good look at the range of head torches they sell.

For being "seen" they are hard to beat for commuting over a smaller light on the bars.

As said above, shop around. That price is high compared to what I paid for the same set I bought to give as a Christmas present. Also take a look at the new 1w LED rear light by Smart. I bought one to replace one of the 1/2 w LED ones I broke and it's brighter with a wider beam for not much more money.

If you do get helmet lights make sure you still have a good visibility light at handlebar level - that's the one car drivers see best.
